Barfield School is very proud of the unique partnership that exists between staff, children and parents, and we consider ourselves to be fortunate in having dedicated, enthusiastic, loyal and well-qualified teachers in both the Lower and Upper Schools.
Mr Andrew Boyle is Headmaster of the school with Mrs Christina Tupper as Deputy Head. They work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the smooth and effective running of the school.
In the Lower School, class teachers are carefully chosen to provide academic, social and emotional support to the children. In the Upper School, form tutors and heads of year provide pastoral support and academic matters are monitored by the subject teachers and heads of department.
Senior Management Team
Headmaster - Mr Andrew Boyle
Qualification - BA (Hons) GTP
Andrew joined the Barfield family as Headmaster in 2019. In addition to his responsibilities as Headmaster, he can often be seen out on the Games pitches and thoroughly enjoys sharing his love for sport with the children. Prior to joining, he enjoyed 11 very happy years as Deputy Head at Chandlings School in Oxfordshire - which is also part of the Prep Schools Trust. Originally from Yorkshire, Andrew started his teaching journey in his home town of Harrogate and felt incredibly lucky to complete his first year of teaching back at the school that he attended as a boy. Away from school, he has recently become a new father and is making the most of every minute with his young family. In addition to playing a range of sports, Andrew can often be found in the local countryside walking his two working cocker spaniels.
Deputy Head - Mrs Christina Tupper
Qualification - BA (Hons) PGCE
Christina joined the Barfield family in 2010. During her time she has taught Science, Girls' Games, VR, ICT and Maths. She has been a Form Tutor for a number of years, along with being Head of ICT and Science. Christina was promoted to Director of Studies in 2017, and has retained the Head of Science alongside this position. Before joining Barfield, Christina was a professional golfer playing on the European Ladies Tour. She was the Manager at a prestigious Golf Club in the South East of England, which involved the day to day running of the business. Along with working at Barfield, Christina occasionally works for the University of Chichester mentoring trainees in teaching Science in secondary schools, along with marking postgraduate scripts. Outside of Barfield, Christina enjoys exercising and reading, and is hoping to restart golf again in the near future.
Head of Operations - Mrs Sarah Grantham
Qualification - BSc (Hons)
Sarah joined the Barfield family in 2013, as an HR & Administration Manager. Her role has increased over the years, with the most recent addition being Head of Operations. Before joining Barfield Sarah attended Kent University studying Business Computing, and now has over 16 years experience in HR. Sarah worked at Sainsburys in the HR department, a Store Trainer and some time as a Store Manager. Prior to this she spent eight years as a Store Manager at a large Golf Complex in Surrey. Before these roles, Sarah worked as a Flight Dispatcher at Heathrow Airport which enabled her to travel the world, which she greatly enjoyed. Outside of Barfield, Sarah enjoys spending time with her two children, playing tennis and golf if and when the opportunity arises. She helps at her sons' Cub Scouts and has an active part in her daughters' tennis club.
Head of Lower School - Mrs Helen Brown
Qualification - BA (Hons) Primary Ed
Helen joined the Barfield family in 2005 as a Teacher in the Prep School. She was the Year 3 and 4 Form Tutor, along with teaching Science, RE, PSHE, Maths and Head of ICT. Helen moved to the Pre-Prep in 2009, where she was Class Teacher in Year 1 and 2, before becoming Head of Pre-Prep in 2018. Prior to joining Barfield, Helen taught in a Primary School as an Infant Teacher. Outside of Barfield Helen enjoys reading, sewing and spending time with her family. At weekends, she spends time watching her children play for their local Football, Rugby and Cricket Clubs.
Head of Upper School - Mr Jim Taylor

Qualification - BSc (Hons), QTS
Jim joined the Barfield family in 2022 as the Head of Upper School. Prior to joining Barfield he was a PE teacher whilst gaining his teaching qualification. His first job was as a Form Tutor in Year 3, whilst teaching English, Maths, Science and PE. After two years he became Director of Sport, and then progressed to a Prep School near Epsom, where he was Director of Sport and Head of PSHE. Jim has been heavily involved in Pastoral Care and running the assembly structures and well-being programmes. Outside of Barfield, Jim enjoys coaching Rugby for the Harlequins development programme as well as coaching a senior men's rugby team near to his home. Jim also enjoys going to the gym and exercising regularly.

Head of Life Skills - Mrs Katie Birkbeck
Qualification - BA (Hons), PGCE
Katie joined the Barfield family in 2017, as a Prep Teacher. Katie teaches Humanities and English in Years 3 - 5, along with managing the Year 5 English Speaking Board Examinations. Prior to working at Barfield, Katie did a number of roles prior to completing her PGCE at Kingston University. She then taught in a number of schools in Surrey, Wales and most recently in Brunei. Outside of school, Katie loves spending time with her family and friends, walking the family dog and going on holiday.
Head of Learning Support - Mrs Becky Butler
Qualification - BA (Hons), QTS
Becky joined the Barfield family in September 2022 as a Learning Support Teacher. Becky became Head of Learning Support in 2023. Prior to joining Barfield, Becky was an English specialist who has taught in Surrey for the past 16 years across most year groups and has experience in teaching all subjects. During her working career she has held a number of different positions including Deputy Head. Becky has a wealth of experience working with children who have additional needs and a passion for ensuring that all children reach their full potential. Outside of Barfield, Becky enjoys pilates, swimming, reading, spending time with her husband and two young children and going on holiday.

Eddie joined Barfield in the Summer Term of 2023. He has been very fortunate to hold the position of Director of Sport/Head of PE in a number of fantastic state and independent schools, both in the UK and overseas. Eddie is passionate about the significant impact that a positive experience of physical education can have in all young people's lives. Eddie is a keen golfer and cyclist and loves to involve himself in these activities outside of school whenever he has the opportunity.
Head of English - Mrs Lynn Pryce
Qualification - BEd (Hons)
Lynn joined the Barfield family in 1999, as maternity cover in the Prep School. She then moved to teaching PE, Humanities, a Year 2 Teacher and Head of Pre-Prep, along with running the Nativity each year. Lynn then moved back into the Prep School, teaching Years 3 and 4 English, before becoming Head of English. Prior to joining Barfield Lynn taught locally for five years, and was one of the first people to get girls' playing Football in school. She moved on from this role, and taught ESL for three years to children in a school in Hong Kong. Outside of Barfield, Lynn enjoys reading, art, travel, music and going to the theatre and concerts. Her main passion is spending time with her two children.
Head of Reasoning and Current Affairs - Mr James Reid
Qualification - BEd (Hons)
James joined Barfield in September 1994 as Director of Studies, and since then has also held the positions of Deputy Head, Acting Headmaster (twice), Headmaster between 2014 and 2019, and Senior Master. In addition to these roles, James was also Head of Mathematics for 30 years, a position from which he stepped down in July 2024. His focus now is on preparing the children for entry to Senior School through practising aspects of Reasoning and improving their knowledge of the wider world via Current Affairs' lessons. James has been a Team Inspector for ISI, was Chairman of the IAPS Finance Committee and prior to joining Barfield, he attended Charterhouse School and Goldsmiths' College at the University of London before starting his teaching career at St. Andrew's School, Woking. Outside of Barfield, James enjoys horse racing, and he is an annual member at four different racecourses, including being a Patron at Goodwood. He also has a love of (watching) football, cricket and cycling, especially Le Tour De France. James is a member of the Queen's English Society, and he enjoys keeping up - to - date with national and world events, particularly the political landscape.
Head of Art and Design and Technology - Mr Philip Ryland
Qualification - Bachelor of Art
Philip has been a professional artist for 20 years and in that time has worked in many schools with different age groups running workshops and classes. He joined Barfield in 2020 as our Artist in Residence and this year he took over the role as Head of Art, teaching Art from reception to year 6. He works closely with potential Art scholars and runs Art camp in the holidays. Away from school he still paints professionally but also enjoys walking, camping and visiting London to see exhibitions.
Head of Languages - Ms Sharon Taylor
Qualification - BA (Hons), MA, PGCE, MIL
Sharon re-joined the Barfield family in 2019, having previously taught here for 9 years.
She teaches French throughout the whole school. Prior to joining, Sharon has taught French, English, Latin and Spanish, as well as being a Form Tutor to a variety of year groups. She has been Head of Department at St. Swithun's in Winchester and in another busy secondary school. Outside of Barfield, Sharon enjoys reading, crafting and travelling.

and Curriculum Coordinator - Miss Elizabeth Trevett
Qualification - BSc (Hons), PGCE, PgDip
Liz joined the Barfield family in 2015 as Head of Humanities. Prior to joining Barfield, Liz studied at the University of Wales, and spent a year teaching in Florida. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked for the Police, before teaching at Mill Chase School as Head of Geography for 12 years. Liz is currently developing the Outdoor Learning Programme. Outside of Barfield, Liz lives on a farm, and enjoys riding her horse, running and looking after her chickens and cats.

Head of Girls' Games and Upper School Coordinator - Ms Jenny Williams
Qualification - BA (Hons), iPGCE
Jenny joined the Barfield family in 2007, when her eldest son joined Owlets. She started as an Instructor for Three Peaks, before assisting with Girls' Games and then in 2020 becoming Head of Girls' Games. She has worked across all Year Groups in the School, and has assisted the Marketing Manager with social media and photography. Prior to joining Barfield Jenny worked in Marketing. Outside of Barfield she enjoys running, gymnastics, general fitness and her passion for photography.
Nursery Manager - Miss Olivia Shirley
Qualification - BA (Hons)
Olivia joined the Barfield family in 2014 as a Nursery Key Person. Although her journey originally started in 1999 until 2008 when she attended Barfield as a pupil. Olivia progressed to Owlets Room Leader before being promoted to Deputy Nursery Manager and in September 2024 she takes on the role of Nursery Manager. Prior to joining Barfield, Olivia was a Nanny and Head Lifeguard at a local Swimming Pool. Outside of Barfield, Olivia has a foundation degree in Early Childhood, and completed a BA Hons in Early Childhood in October 2022. Olivia also enjoys spending time with her family and friends and exercising.

Learning Support Teacher - Mrs Shirley Aldworth
Qualification - Level 5
Shirley joined the Barfield family in 2018, as the Room Leader in Owls A. Prior to joining Barfield, Shirley was a Nanny, Montessori Teacher, Nursery Manager, Area Manager for a small group of Nursery Schools, prior to running her own Nursery. Outside of Barfield, Shirley enjoys reading, walking, art, natural world, and most of all being by the sea at every available opportunity.
Nursery Room Lead - Miss Ellie Bollons
Qualification - Level 3
Ellie joined the Barfield family in September 2022, as a Nursery Room Lead. Prior to Barfield, she worked as an Early Years Teaching Assistant at a Nursery School, and also at a Girls' Independent School. Outside of school, Ellie enjoys running and singing and performing with the Rock Choir. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends and going to the theatre.
Nursery Room Lead and Deputy Nursery Manager - Miss Sadie Botting
Qualification - Level 3
Sadie joined the Barfield family in 2021 as a Nursery Key Person and quickly stepped up to a Room Lead position in Owls where she taught for two years. Sadie now works in Owlets as a Room Lead, alongside being the Deputy Manager of the Nursery. Prior to joining Barfield, Sadie worked in another Nursery setting for 4 years, starting as a member of bank staff and working her way up to Room Lead, whilst completing her Level 3 in Childcare Qualification. Outside of Barfield, Sadie enjoys spending time with her partner, friends and family, going to the theatre, taking trips to theme parks, watching the latest horror films at the cinema, and snuggling up with her cat to read a good book! Sadie is also a huge music lover, and enjoys playing the piano and singing.
Teaching Assistant - Mr Archie Clark
Archie joined the Barfield family in May 2023 as a Gap Year Student, then became a Teaching Assistant in 2024. Prior to this, Archie was a pupil at Barfield from Year 1 to Year 6 and remembers being taught by many teachers still at Barfield. Archie works with both Year 3 classes in lessons, and with Year 3 and Year 4 in games. He also does Three Peaks in the holidays. Outside of Barfield, Archie plays piano and guitar, and likes playing songs with other people. He also enjoys playing football every week, and supporting Tottenham.
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Harriet Childs
Qualification - Level 3
Harriet joined the Barfield family in 2021 as a Teaching Assistant, but has been a parent at the school since 2014. Prior to joining Barfield, Harriet had a varied work life, including working in Arts Administration for the English National Opera and the London Symphony Orchestra. She also spent 10 years working for a professional service firm in London, before setting up her own cake designing and decorating business which she ran for 8 years before completing her Teaching Assistant qualification. Outside of Barfield, Harriet runs every day and is a keen triathlete and open water swimmer. She also enjoys spending time with her family on wild camping and sailing adventures.
Lower School Teacher - Miss Zoe Davies
Qualification - BA (Hons) Primary Education QTS
Zoe joined the Barfield family in 2021, as a Year 1 Teacher. Prior to joining Barfield, Zoe studied at the University of Roehampton. She is also a qualified Girl Guide Leader and has worked for a children's club in the summer holidays. Outside of Barfield, Zoe is passionate about exercise and nutrition. She enjoys new challenges and in 2018 she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, and more recently she completed The National Three Peaks in 24 hours. On weekends Zoe enjoys baking, spending time with family and friends and going on walks with her spaniel.
Nursery Key Person - Miss Sophie Day
Qualification - Level 3
Sophie joined the Barfield family in 2022 as a Nursery Key Person. Prior to joining Barfield, Sophie has worked in two other nursery settings, starting as a student a working her way up to Room Leader whilst completing her Early Years Teacher Qualification. Outside of Barfield, Sophie enjoys spending time with her young son and family, and on the weekends she especially enjoys trips down to the coast.
Nursery Key Person - Mrs Ana Gibbons
Qualification - Level 3
Ana joined the Barfield family in 2018 as a Nursery Key Person in Owls. Prior to joining Barfield, Ana has been working in childcare for almost 13 years. She has worked in two other Nurseries, where she was a Room Leader and Third In Charge. Outside of Barfield, Ana enjoys being outdoors whether that is a trip to the seaside, or a walk around the Surrey Hills with her dog. Ana is originally from Portugal, and has run a marathon and a half marathon, and completed a skydive.
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Wendy Gibling
Qualification - Level 3
Wendy joined the Barfield family in 2003, initially supporting Mr Taylor with the teaching of Pre-Prep Sport and Girls Games. Throughout her time with us, Wendy has enjoyed working as a Teaching Assistant in a wide range of year groups from Owlets to Year 2 and has more recently found her home in Reception. Married to Mr Gibling, it will come as no surprise that she can often be found supporting the children on holiday camps, night camps and residential trips. Prior to working at Barfield, Wendy lived and worked in France for 4 years at an activity and ski resort. Outside of school life, she can often be seen running, biking or walking her dog in the surrounding areas as she loves to keep fit. Her biggest passion are obstacles races and muddy runs, qualifying 2 years in a row for the European Championships.
Learning Support Teacher - Mrs Verity Gilbey
Qualification - BA (Hons) PGCE
Verity joined the Barfield family in September 2023, working as a Learning Support teacher across the school. Verity will also be teaching Life Skills and Humanities. Prior to working at Barfield Verity has worked in various schools - private, international (Hong Kong) and state (London and Farnham) mainly as a class teacher, most recently as a reception teacher at St Polycarps school. She has also been a Senco at a pre-prep school in London. Outside school when she is not ferrying her lovely children around the place, she enjoys walking, spending time on her allotment and escaping to the sea and in her dreams, reading!
Teaching Assistant - Mr Harry Green
Qualification - Level 3
Harry joined the Barfield family in February 2022, working as a Teaching Assistant in Year 1.
Prior to joining Barfield Harry worked as a LSA in Reception, Year 2 and Year 4. In his spare time Harry is a football coach for his local team, as well as playing himself. He enjoys supporting Tottenham and spending time with his friends and trying new things.
Music Teacher - Mrs Emily Hinchliff
Qualification - Music Degree
Emily joined the Barfield family in September 2023. Emily will be teaching music throughout the school and will be working with the choir and orchestra. She will also be teaching violin lessons. Prior to joining Barfield Emily has taught in primary music for the past 8 years and prior to that taught secondary up to A level. Emily has worked in special needs schools, pupil referral units, and run 'Violins Together' at All Hallows. Before Emily went into teaching she worked full time as a professional violinist in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for 6 years. Emily still enjoys playing in string quartets at weddings and working as a freelance musician. In her free time Emily enjoys working on her allotment, baking, and watching her 3 children play sports and music.

Lower School Teacher - Mrs Emma Johnson
Qualification - BEd (Hons)
Emma originally joined Barfield in 2001 until 2004, and then returned in 2013. Emma is currently a Reception Teacher and a Learning Support Teacher, but she has also been a Year 2 Form Teacher. Prior to joining, Emma taught in State Schools from 1991. Outside Barfield, Emma enjoys reading, dog walking, baking and spending time with her family.
Lower School Teacher - Mrs Katie Jones

Katie joined Barfield in September 2022 as a Year 1 teacher. Prior to joining she spent eight years in a large state primary school where she taught Year 1 and Year 2. She has held the position of Year 2 Leader. During her time at University, Katie volunteered teaching English at a school in Thailand. Katie loves working with young children and seeing them flourish both academically and socially. Outside of Barfield, Katie enjoys reading, travelling, exploring new places with her husband, going to the theatre and spending time with her family and friends.
Upper School Teacher - Miss Meredith Jordan
Qualification - BA (Ed), QTS
Meredith joined the Barfield family in 2020, as a Nursery Key Person, whilst also completing her NQT year, by visiting and teaching various year groups across the school. Meredith graduated from Oxford Brookes University in the Summer of 2020 and subsequently became a Teacher in the Lower School. Meredith is now a Teacher in the Upper School and Form Tutor to Year 3. Outside Barfield, Meredith enjoys watching and participating in a number of sports, especially football where she represented the women's first team at University, she played tennis at county level and enjoys skiing. Away from her sports, Meredith enjoys socialising with family and friends, travelling, attending music events and cooking.
Nursery Key Person - Mrs Jo King
Qualification - NNEB
Jo joined the Barfield family in 2003, working as a Teaching Assistant in Reception and Year 1, before becoming an assistant in the Nursery in 2006. Jo progressed to Deputy Nursery Manager before being promoted in 2018 to her Nursery Manager. Jo will step down from the Nursery Manager role and the end of August will be a Nursery Key Person from September 2024. Before joining Barfield, Jo worked as a Nanny. Outside of Barfield Jo likes nothing more than being a football mum to her two boys, taking the family dog for walks, going on family bike rides and relaxing with painting by numbers or a good book.
Teaching Assistant - Miss Debra Knights
Qualification - HLTA
Debra joined the Barfield family in 2021 as a Teaching Assistant in Reception. Prior to joining Barfield Debra worked as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in a Primary School. Debra is a qualified Dance Teacher, and ran her own dance school in Hertfordshire for 12 years and is now freelance in local dance schools. Outside of Barfield Debra enjoys visiting the theatre, watching ice hockey, cooking, reading and spending time by the sea with her teenage daughters.
Lower School Teacher - Mrs Hannah Longbottom
Qualification - BA (Hons), PGCE
Before joining the Barfield Family in September 2024, Mrs Longbottom taught at St Hilary's School, in Godalming as Head of Science. She has also taught at Rowan Prep School for 6 years, and after completing her teaching training, went back and taught at her old school for a few years. It was very strange working alongside her own teachers! Outside of school, she is a mummy to 3 fantastic boys who keep her constantly on her toes. As a family, they enjoy walks in the woods and getting outside in nature. Mrs Longbottom also loves running, and uses this time to relax. At University Mrs Longbottom was President of Netball and is very keen to get back into playing...if she can find the time!
Lower School Teacher - Miss Rebecca Mackarell
Qualification - BA (Hons), PGCE
Rebecca joined the Barfield family in September 2022 as a Lower School Teacher. Prior to joining she worked in a couple of schools in both Reception and Year 1. Rebecca loves working with young children. Outside of Barfield Rebecca has two small children, and she loves spending all her time with them. She is an Aerobic Gymnastics Brevet Judge, and she volunteers throughout the year to attend competitions all over the country.
Nursery Room Lead - Miss Sarah Marshall
Qualification - Level 3
Sarah joined the Barfield family in 2016 as Nursery Manager, before having a break to have her son. She returned in 2019 as a Nursery Room Lead. Although Sarah is contracted to Term Time, she does help cover in the holiday periods. Before joining Barfield, Sarah worked in a variety of childcare roles since she qualified in 2003, including Private Nurseries and Thomas Cook in Turkey and Cyprus. Outside of Barfield, Sarah recently started the Couch to 5K, so is enjoying running a few days a week. She likes to sing, and has experience of performing on the stage. Sarah spends her weekends with her son at Alice Holt or the beach. She also enjoys curling up on the sofa with a good book.

Sarah joined the Barfield family in 2020, as a Teaching Assistant in Year 1 and now Year 3. Prior to joining Barfield, Sarah worked as a Learning Support Assistant in another Independent School working with children aged between 2 and 8, as well as being a Teaching Assistant in Reception for 7 years. Outside of Barfield, Sarah loves spending her free time cooking, baking, going to the gym, yoga and holidays in the sun with her family and friends.
Nursery Key Person - Mrs Adriana Morgan
Qualification - Level 4
Adriana joined the Barfield family in 2016 as a Nursery Key Person in Owls. Before joining Barfield Adriana studied Textile Design in Colombia. She held Workshops in Researching and Delivering Regional Crafts, before moving to the UK. Adriana started working with children in 2003, and enjoyed it so much she completed her Early Childhood Montessori qualification. Outside of Barfield, Adriana enjoys cycling, walking, making jewellery, cooking, travelling and she is learning dinghy sailing.
Nursery Key Person - Miss Inis Morris
Qualification - NNEB
Inis joined the Barfield family in November 2022 as a Nursery Assistant. Prior to joining Barfield she worked as a Nanny in America and then went on to work in Nurseries and Playgroups, before working with SEN children within schools. Outside of Barfield, Inis enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the cinema, having days out or catching up. Inis also spends her spare time sewing, painting and Arts and Crafts.
Nursery Room Lead - Miss Kassie Morris
Qualification - Level 3
Kassie joined the Barfield family in July 2022 as a Nursery Key Person. She became a Room Lead in 2023. Prior to joining Barfield she worked as an Early Years Assistant in an Infant School for seven years, and completed her ELSA training at the same time. Kassie works as a nanny after school whilst working towards her degree in Education Studies. Outside of Barfield, Kassie enjoys listening to music, dancing, cooking and spending time with her friends.
Lower School Teacher - Ms Sophie Murray
Qualification - BA (Hons), QTS
Sophie joined the Barfield family in 2018, working as a part time Form Teacher in Year 1 and Year 2. Sophie assists in the Nursery during the holidays, as has taught French in the Pre-Prep. Prior to joining Barfield she worked as a Nanny and held various roles in Nursery and EYFS settings. She has taught in Years 3 and 5, along with working in an International School whilst she completed her degree. Outside of Barfield, Sophie enjoys socialising, travelling, exploring new places and visiting her father in New York. She recently became an Aunty
Nursery Assistant - Ms Sandra Pharo
Qualification - Level 3
Sandra joined the Barfield family in 1992 as a Lunchtime Assistant in the kitchen. She worked in that department for 25 years, gaining a Level 3 Kitchen Supervisor qualification along the way. Three years ago Sandra changed her career direction and moved over to the Nursery. In 2019 she achieved her NVQ Level 3 qualification. Outside of Barfield Sandra enjoys cooking, spending time with her family at the seaside and caravanning holidays.
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Christina Newman
Qualification - Master's Degree in Education, QTS
With a Master's degree in Education and over a decade of teaching experience in the U.S., Singapore and London, Mrs. Newman brings a global perspective to the classroom. She is passionate about creating a positive and engaging learning environment and strives to inspire her students to stay curious. When she's not in the classroom, you can find her chasing after her young children or hitting the trails for a run.
Gap Student - Miss Emily Russell
Emily joined as a Gap Year Student in September 2024 after graduating with a first class degree in Sociology and Social Policy from the University of Bath. Previous to graduation, Emily completed a yearlong placement in Corporate Communications at UBS, London in her third year of study. Outside of Barfield, Emily enjoys keeping fit through running, going to the gym, and playing netball. Some highlights of her sport include representing her university in their BUCS league in her second year, and playing in an external league during her fourth year. Alongside this, Emily loves spending quality time with her family and friends, going on lovely dog walks, eating good food, baking, and travelling to new cities.
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Natalie Ryland
Qualification - Level 3
Natalie joined the Barfield family in 2019 as a Key Person in Owlets and has since progressed to a Teaching Assistant in Year 1. Prior to Barfield, Natalie worked as a Classroom Assistant from 2007, whilst training as a HLTA to enable her to teach classes from Nursery to Year 6. Outside of Barfield, Natalie enjoys cycling, and is regularly seen cycling to and from work. Natalie also enjoys camping with the family, making things, knitting, going for long walks or relaxing with a good book.
Upper School Teacher - Mr Kevin Scowcroft
Qualification - BSc (Hons)
Kevin joined the Barfield family in September 2023, working as a Teacher in the Upper School and Form Tutor to Year 4. Prior to joining Barfield Kevin worked at Alton School as a Class teacher for Years 2&3, Pastoral Lead, DSL and Director of Hockey. Before teaching Kevin ran his own Direct Sales Business; having returned from living/working in Japan for 2 years working for Monbusho. Outside of Barfield Kevin loves playing and watching sports... following Manchester United, playing basketball for Alton Storm, hockey for Alton Hockey Club 3s and current Hampshire Hockey u13s Girls' Assistant Coach. Kevin also enjoys taking his two young children out on their bikes or to the park and socialising with friends and family.
Nursery Key Person - Mrs Tomoko Sucharov
Qualification - Level 3
Tomoko joined the Barfield family in 2013 as a Nursery Assistant, before progressing to a Nursery Key Person. Prior to Barfield, Tomoko had a career in the Hotel Industry following her completion of a Post Graduate Degree in International Hospitality Management, both in Japan and the UK, before doing some private tutoring and childcare. Outside of Barfield, Tomoko enjoys going for long walks and bike rides with her family, participating in Tai Chi or reading books with her cat on her lap.
Nursery Key Person - Miss Amy Taylor
Qualification - Level 3
Amy first joined Barfield whilst she was at college in 2017 whilst gaining her level 3 childcare qualification. Amy then went onto Portsmouth University in 2019 to study Childhood and Youth Studies. When Amy graduated in 2022 she started working full time in Owls. Whilst at University Amy was part of a social work panel for a year and Home Start charity which helped her gain work experience for her university degree. Before Amy started working full time at Barfield, she participated in a Youth Commission group which promoted making a difference in young people’s lives. Amy used to participate in ballet, tap and modern classes for seven years which she really enjoyed and would like to take up again. Outside of Barfield Amy loves spending time with her family and friends, travelling around the world and exploring different foods and seeing different scenery.
Sports Teacher - Mr Ray Taylor
Qualification - AIST
Ray joined the Barfield family in 1989. He has undertaken a number of other roles including Director of Sport, Housemaster and Form Tutor to a number of year groups in the Prep School. Ray was the founder of Barfield Three Peaks, where he still works helping at weekends and on holiday camps as a Senior Instructor. Ray is a current member of the Barfield Friends committee and assists them with regular events. Before joining Barfield, Ray served in the British Army for 11 years as a Radio and Data Telegraphist. During this time he trained as a Physical Training Instructor and gained his Cross Swords. Ray loves nothing more that seeing Barfield pupils grow in confidence and develop new skills, but when he is not at school, he enjoys walking his dog and spending time with the family.
Librarian - Mrs Annie Tarrant
Annie joined the Barfield family in 2019 as a lunchtime assistant, before becoming the School Librarian in 2021. Prior to joining Barfield Annie held a number of Librarian roles including Library and Information Assistant at the National Maritime Museum, Resources Librarian at Farnborough College of Technology and Library Network Assistant at Farnham Library. Outside of Barfield, Annie enjoys spending time with her three children, painting, visiting Art Galleries, swimming, reading and socialising with friends.
Nursery Key Person and Room Lead - Mrs Claire Vaughan
Qualification - Level 3
Claire joined the Barfield family in April 2022 as a Nursery Key Person. Prior to joining Barfield Claire spent the last six years working as an LSA in Reception. Before this role she worked as a Nursery Key Person for five years working with children aged between 2 and 4 years. Outside of Barfield, Claire enjoys spending time with her family and friends and going on long walks with her dog.
Upper School Teacher - Mr Pat Whittle
Qualification - QTS
Pat joined the Barfield family in 2021, working as a Teacher in the Upper School and Form Tutor to Year 4. Pat undertook his work placement at Barfield, which included supporting Key Worker children during Lockdown, and assisting a Year 4 group along with teaching core lessons.
Prior to joining Barfield Pat worked for 5 years as a Sport Coach in local schools delivering PE lessons and extracurricular activities as well as providing PE training to support schools to deliver an enhanced PE curriculum. During this time he gained his Primary Education degree with Qualified Teacher Status. Outside of Barfield, Pat enjoys playing sport in his spare time and still plays for his local football team every weekend. He is a keen follower of a majority of sports but mostly Formula One.

Lower School Teacher - Mrs Sophie Wright

Sophie joined the Barfield Family in 2017 and began her journey as a Reception Form Teacher. Over the past 6 years, she has been inspiring our children in Year R & Year 1 and absolutely loves supporting the academic and emotional needs of some of our smallest boys and girls. Before joining Barfield, Sophie worked in a local village school in Tilford, where she taught in Reception for 5 years. Sophie has two young children and has recently returned from Maternity Leave. If the chance arises, Sophie enjoys a game of tennis with her husband or a lovely long walk, never forgetting to stop for coffee and cake.

Office Manager/Head's PA - Mrs Joanne Spooner
Jo joined the Barfield family in 2019, as the Office Administrator and Receptionist before becoming the Office Manager and Head's PA in November 2022. Prior to Barfield she worked as an Office Manager at Amery Hill School and the Cauliflower Group Ltd. Outside of Barfield, Jo enjoys walking, playing badminton, travelling and settling down with a good book.
Marketing Manager - Mrs Rochelle Jackson
Qualification - BComm Marketing Degree
Rochelle joined the Barfield family in September 2022, as Marketing Manager. Prior to Barfield, she worked in various administrative roles and commercial property marketing, and she is currently running a Direct selling business part-time. Outside of Barfield, Rochelle enjoys live music, going to the theatre and travelling. She also enjoys being outdoors with her husband, three girls and their dog.
Admissions and Administration Assistant - Mrs Holly Wooldridge
Holly joined the Barfield Family in October 2022, as Office Administrator and Receptionist and has since become the Administration Assistant assisting with Admissions, Marketing and the smooth running of the School Office. Prior to Barfield she worked in HR at McLaren Automotive Ltd. Outside of Barfield, Holly enjoys exploring the outdoors with her son, going to the gym and holidays with her family.
Office Administrator and Receptionist - Mrs Kim Lethbridge
Kim joined the Barfield Family team in February 2024, as the Office Administrator and Receptionist. Prior to Barfield, Kim worked at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Outside of Barfield, Kim enjoyed doing the "Moon Walk" in London and Edinburgh. Kim also enjoys gardening, sewing and travelling on overseas holidays with her family.

Domestic Bursar - Mrs Jenny Hughes
Jenny joined the Barfield family in 2004 as Housekeeper, which involved managing the catering and cleaning of the School. Since then her role has expanded, and she is also responsible for First Aid and Match Teas. Jenny's daughter attended Barfield from Year 2 until she moved on to Churchers College. Outside of Barfield, Jenny enjoys going to the Theatre and the Ballet. She loves going on long country walks with her dogs, and spending time with her three children and three grandchildren.
Evening Cleaner Supervisor - Mrs Sharon Stoner
Sharon joined the Barfield family in 2014 as an Evening Cleaner.
Prior to joining Barfield, Sharon was a School Lunchtime Supervisor. Outside of Barfield, Sharon enjoys spending time with her family, and attending Yoga and Pilates classes.

Carol joined the Barfield family in 2014 as an Evening Cleaner. Prior to joining Barfield Carol was a cleaner. Outside of Barfield Carol enjoys going camping with her girls, going on long walks and listening to music.

Maintenance Manager - Mr Cliff Dean
Cliff joined the Barfield family in 2009 as Maintenance Manager. Prior to joining Barfield, Cliff was a general builder for 25 years. Outside of Barfield, Cliff is a Dance Teacher and spends most weekends teaching adults a range of different dances. Cliff has recently taken up paddleboarding, which he is very much enjoying.
Maintenance Assistant - Mr Andy Grant
Andy joined the Barfield family in 2022 as a Maintenance Assistant. Prior to joining Barfield, Andy worked as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer and a Bathroom and Kitchen Installer. Outside of Barfield, Andy enjoys mountain biking, football, walking and snorkelling.
Maintenance Assistant - Mr Richard Pollington
Richard joined the Barfield family in 2023 as a Maintenance Assistant. Richard has a carpentry background and has spent most of his working career as a project manager in the construction industry. Outside of Barfield, Richard is a keen sea kayaker and loves exploring the British coastline.
Minibus Drivers
Minibus Driver - Mr Jef Powell
Jef joined the Barfield family in 2022, as a Minibus Driver. Prior to joining Barfield, Jef drove a school minibus for Embley school and Stroud school based in Romsey. Since retiring and selling his entertainment business, and moving to Odiham, Jef has become a trustee & presenter for Basingstoke Radio. Jef also has two lovely rescue dogs, who seem to spend more time on the sofa than he does.

Three Peaks Outdoor Pursuits & Grounds Team
Three Peaks Manager - Mr Karl Gibling
Karl joined the Barfield family in 2001, as Manager of Three Peaks. Along with this role Karl is the schools Health and Safety advisor and assists with sports lessons. The most recent addition to his role is Manager of the Grounds Team. Prior to joining Barfield, Karl was in the Army as a Royal Engineer before moving to Head of Climbing at an Adventure Company in the South of France, along with being a Ski Guide in the winter season. Outside of School, Karl enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, skiing and outdoor adventure sports including OCR races.
Outdoor Learning and Three Peaks Leader - Mr Mark Gore
Mark joined the Barfield family 16 years ago, as Deputy Manager for Three Peaks. As part of his role he is involved with Outdoor Pursuits, Grounds Maintenance and Forest School. Prior to Barfield, Mark worked at residential centres teaching Outdoor Pursuits in the South of France and the UK. Outside of Barfield Mark enjoys running, cycling, golf and spending time with his family.
Three Peaks Leader - Mr Max FitzGerald
Qualification - BSc (Hons)
Max joined Barfield as a pupil in 2001 and left at the end of Year 8 in 2012, before he joined the Three Peaks team in 2018 alongside studying Sports Science and Outdoor Activities at Bangor University. During his time at Barfield, he has also helped in the Maintenance Team before taking up a full-time role as Three Peaks Leader in April 2022. Outside of Barfield, Max enjoys music, food, white water kayaking, mountaineering and climbing. He enjoyed his recent trip to Argentina where he successfully climbed to the summit of Aconcagua.
Groundsman - Mr Glenn Murphy
Glenn joined the Barfield family in 2021 as Groundsman. Prior to Barfield Glenn ran a Garden Maintenance Company in Surrey for nine years and then worked for a landscaping company for two years. Outside of Barfield, Glenn enjoys gardening, cooking, listening to music, football and days out with his family
